Boy Scout representatives from the Science High School Department (UBSHS) of the University of Baguio proudly participated in the 68th Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA) and the 29th Jamboree-on-the-Internet (JOTI), held on October 18, 2025. This global Scouting event, which connected thousands of Scouts from all over the world, was organized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), with the University of Baguio High School Department acting as host. The event was made possible with the support of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Baguio City Council, DX2CAR-CARES, and Dr. Violeta F. Apiles, who played a key role in facilitating the occasion.
The JOTA-JOTI is one of the largest digital Scouting gatherings worldwide, serving as a unique platform for young and aspiring Scout leaders and members to interact, share experiences, and build global friendships. With the theme “A World Shaped by Youth,” the event encouraged Scouts to engage in meaningful exchanges while promoting peace, understanding, and collaboration across borders. The UBSHS Boy Scouts, alongside other participants, had the opportunity to connect with fellow Scouts from across the Philippines and even from distant corners of the globe. Through this, they experienced firsthand the values of cultural exchange, friendship, and the power of communication in bridging gaps between nations and communities.

Building Global Brotherhood With the UBSHS Boy Scouts
The UBSHS Boy Scouts participated in a series of activities designed to strengthen their communication skills, foster teamwork, and build global brotherhood. These activities were carefully curated to align with the core principles of Scouting (leadership, responsibility, and service). Through the use of amateur radio and online platforms, the Scouts were able to communicate with their peers from various countries. This helped them gain a deeper understanding of other cultures, traditions, and ways of life, while also learning how to convey their own ideas, values, and experiences effectively.
A key feature of the 68th Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA) event was the opportunity for Scouts to explore the exciting world of amateur radio operations. Student representatives learned how to communicate through radio waves, a skill that not only connects people over vast distances but also nurtures a sense of responsibility and respect for the technology. This hands-on experience with radio communication gave the UBSHS Boy Scouts an appreciation for the power of technology and its role in connecting individuals across continents.

On the other hand, the 29th Jamboree-on-the-Internet (JOTI) event offered a dynamic virtual platform for Scouts to engage in online forums, participate in global discussions, and collaborate on international projects. The online interactions provided the UBSHS Scouts with the chance to share their Scouting ideals and learn from the experiences of others. It also offered an opportunity to reflect on the critical role that youth play in shaping a more sustainable, peaceful, and interconnected world. The theme “A World Shaped by Youth” came to life through the Scouts’ active participation in these discussions, where they voiced their thoughts on pressing global issues, such as climate change, youth empowerment, and social justice.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the event was the emphasis on leadership and initiative. The UBSHS Boy Scouts, under the guidance of their Scout leaders, actively took on roles within the JOTA-JOTI activities, demonstrating their ability to lead and make a difference in their communities. They also learned valuable lessons on responsible online behavior, the importance of respect, and the need for cooperation in an increasingly digital world.

As the 68th JOTA and 29th JOTI came to a close, the UBSHS Boy Scouts walked away with invaluable experiences and newfound friendships that transcended borders and cultures. Their active participation in this global event serves as a powerful reminder that the youth have the potential to shape the world. Through communication, unity, and leadership, they are not only learning the skills necessary for success but also making meaningful contributions toward creating a better, more connected future.
In conclusion, the UBSHS Boy Scouts’ participation in JOTA-JOTI 2025 was not just a display of Scouting skills but a demonstration of the power of youth to make a difference. The event perfectly encapsulated the ideals of Scouting—service, friendship, and global understanding—while providing an excellent opportunity for the UBSHS Scouts to contribute to a world that is indeed shaped by the youth.
