UBSHS athletes secure awards in Asian Junior Championships

University of Baguio Science High School taekwondo jins proudly represented the Philippines in the recently concluded 2025 Asian Junior, Cadet and Para Taekwondo Championships on July 24 to August 1, 2025, in Kuching, Malaysia.

Competing with 34 other countries, including Korea, China, and Chinese Taipei, the UBSHS athletes brought home two bronze medals and a quarterfinal finish. 

Guided by coach Paul Romero, Kirstie Elaine Alora, Rani Ann Ortega, Jeordan Dominguez, Rodolfo Reyes Jr., and Gershon Bautista, the team delivered an outstanding performance.

Chezka Nicolette Luzadas and Joniya Yua Ysabelle Obiacoro managed to get away with bronze medals. Luzadas competed in the Team Poomsae Cadet category, while Obiacoro fought in the Team and Pair Poomsae Cadet category.

Joshua Aaron Erece survived the early rounds and claimed the quarterfinalist spot after competing in the Junior’s 45 kilogram (kg) Kyorugi category.

The University of Baguio continues to be a foundation for these athletes as they gear up for each event. With dedication, these athletes represent the school in both local to international competitions. Through low and high kicks, the taekwondo jins are set for another competition.
